Everyone knows about Viagra. Your grandma knows about, your daughter knows about it, even the birds in the nearby park know about it. This comes as no surprise as Viagra is the most famous erectile dysfunction drug in the world. And since we all also know how horrible ED is for both men and women who bear with them, of course Viagra will be one of the most popular drugs around. However, this doesn’t mean Viagra is the best ED medicine and in this article we will explain thoroughly why medications like Cialis are much more superior.

Before we even start our story, the entire idea about Viagra needs some clarification. The thing is, you know about Viagra because of relentless, aggressive marketing in the past 16 years (that’s how long it’s been on the market). It was the first brand name for ED drugs and it stuck with most people, who didn’t feel like experimenting. And while this makes some sense, it is still great to know that there are drugs much better and more powerful than Viagra, and you should try them, because they are just as safe, if not even safer.

Cialis is certainly one of those medications. Deployed on the market after years of research and development, this drug is several years younger than Viagra and also improved because it took its time to develop. It was officially approved and launched in 2003 and, like Viagra, also works as a PDE5 inhibitor. What does this mean? Well, in layman’s terms, this means it inhibits the enzyme PDE5, which is responsible for narrowing the blood vessels. This way, it allows for great blood flow and real, durable erections, although it should be noted that the penis should still be stimulated, even after the drug kicks in (this is simply normal, you cannot expect to achieve an erection just by taking the drug).

The reasons why Tadalafil, which is the generic name for Cialis, is superior to both Viagra and Levitra (other common ED drug), is its immeasurably longer half life. Cialis’s half-lilfe is about 18 hours, which is over four times longer than the half-life of Viagra (4-5 hours). This means that Cialis is retained in your body for far longer, allowing you to take only a single pill and engage in sexual activity for a day or two afterward. This is why Cialis is also known as the ‘weekend drug’. You don’t have to take it as often as Viagra and you can also have spontaneous sexual encounters afterward, which is certainly a great, great advantage.

The regular dosage for Cialis is 10g per pill and, as we already said, you don’t have to take it every day. This, of course, reduces the threat of side effects, and another reason why Cialis is superior to Viagra is that it will never give you a headache (a trademark Viagra side-effect). Other side effects are similar, but pretty rare.
